The white flash transition is popular and is most common in music videos then any other media platform. The editing effect is found between each shot; there a few frames of white that are played back several times to give the idea that it is a regular flash when it is played at normal pace.
The white flashes can also have different intensities depending on how much of an impact you want the flash to have on the clip.
In our case, a white flash is to be used when we cut from performance to narrative as it is as if the main character is reminiscing and thinking about something that previously happened not too long ago. This represents the idea of ambiguity and nostalgia, she is remembering the times that are either bad or good memories now.
