National Socio-Economic Classification

When developing my Audience research, I referred to the viewers in very small and specific groups that could be based on age, gender, interests, profession, etc.

In terms of, referring to them basing it on the their social class and economic status, I referred to the National Socio-Economic Classification; this theory enabled me to group the audience based on a broad variety of sections instead of very specific topics.

This is the primary social classification in the United Kingdom. This replaced two previous groups: Socio-economic groups and Social class based on Occupation. The version that is intended to be used is divided into 8 categories:

  1. Higher managerial and professional occupations.
  2. Lower managerial and professional occupations.
  3. Intermediate occupations (clerical, sales, service)
  4. Small employers and own account workers
  5. Lower supervisory and technical occupations
  6. Semi-routine occupations
  7. Routine occupations
  8. Never worked and long-term unemployment
This again can be simplified down to three main groups:
  1. Higher occupations
  2. Intermediate occupations
  3. Lowe occupations
